Naiomi Metallic Appointed as King’s Counsel

BWB is thrilled to announce that Naiomi Metallic, a valued member of our legal team, has been appointed as a King’s Counsel (K.C.) on February 5, 2025. She is now officially recognized as “one of His Majesty’s Counsel learned in the law in the Province of Nova Scotia.”

The K.C. designation is awarded by the Province of Nova Scotia to exceptional members of the legal profession who have demonstrated outstanding merit and made significant contributions to the legal community. Naiomi’s appointment is another testament to her exemplary work and influence within the field of law. In June 2024, Naiomi was the recipient of the Canadian Bar Association (CBA) Ramon John Hnatyshyn Award for Law. The award is given by the CBA to recognize outstanding contributions in law reform, legal scholarship and/or legal research.

Naiomi’s distinguished career includes her role as an advocate at the Supreme Court of Canada, where she has championed important legal causes. She is also one of Canada’s foremost academic experts in Aboriginal Law and has made lasting contributions to the academic community as an Associate Professor of Law, Chancellor's Chair in Aboriginal Law and Policy and Aboriginal Law Certificate Coordinator at Dalhousie University’s Schulich School of Law. Through her passion and expertise, Naiomi continues to shape the next generation of legal minds, all while upholding the highest standards of the legal profession.

Naiomi has been an integral part of our team since 2003, when she joined legacy firm, Burchell Hayman Parish, as a summer student. We are incredibly fortunate to have Naiomi as a colleague, and we look forward to her continued success in her distinguished career.

Please join us in congratulating Naiomi on this well-deserved recognition!
