Burchells LLP is excited to welcome its newest associate, Garnet E. Brooks, who joined the firm’s Transactions and Aboriginal Law practice groups on January 1, 2016.
As a member of the firm’s Transactions group, Garnet advises entrepreneurs and their businesses on various corporate and commercial matters. His practice includes advising on the structure and set up of their businesses, reviewing and preparing various types of contracts and leases, and guiding clients through complex business purchase and sale, and financing transactions.
A valuable addition to Burchells’ Aboriginal Law practice group, Garnet will also continue to assist Aboriginal clients in transactional and business related matters. In this regard, Garnet’s experience includes assisting Aboriginal entrepreneurs and Aboriginal owned businesses and Bands with business structure advice, various types of corporate and commercial transactions, contracting and leasing both on and off reserve, commercial property acquisition, Aboriginal taxation matters and corporate and Band governance.
Garnet obtained his B.A. from Saint Mary’s University in 1997, a Master’s of Applied Linguistics from the University of Southern Queensland in 2002 and his L.L.B. from the Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie University in 2010 and was called to the Nova Scotia Bar in 2011. Prior to joining Burchells, Garnet was an associate lawyer with another Halifax law firm.
