BWB lawyer and Dalhousie professor Naiomi Metallic is 2024's recipient of the Canadian Bar Association's Ramon John Hnatyshyn Award for Law, recognizing outstanding contribution in law reform, legal scholarship, and legal research.
Naiomi's work, along with the efforts of many others including Dr. Cindy Blackstock and the First Nations Caring Society, helped influence the passing of federal legislation on Indigenous child welfare (recognizing the inherent right to self-government and implementing its exercise in child welfare was a first in Canada). Her scholarship was cited in the Supreme Court of Canada decision upholding this legislation.
We are proud to call Naiomi one of our team, and to be able to share her wealth of experience with BWB's valued clients.
