About Jason
Jason Cooke, K.C. is a partner and chair of BWB’s Litigation Group. He is also a member of our Administrative Law, Regulated Professions, and Indigenous Peoples Practice groups.
Jason is currently designated by his peers as one of the "Best Lawyers in Canada" in a number of areas, including Administrative and Public Law, Aboriginal Law, Corporate and Commercial Litigation, Legal Malpractice Law, and Professional Negligence Law. Best Lawyers in Canada has recognized Jason as 2025 Lawyer of the Year for Legal Malpractice Law in Halifax and 2022 Lawyer of the Year for Administrative and Public Law in Halifax. He received his King’s Counsel designation in 2023.
Jason’s administrative law practice includes judicial review, regulated professions, human rights, and planning matters. He has also been involved in a wide range of litigation matters including Aboriginal law litigation, professional liability claims, and commercial litigation disputes. A member of the bar in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador, he has appeared at the Supreme Court of Canada as well as Courts and tribunals in both of those provinces, including the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal and the Newfoundland and Labrador Court of Appeal.
He is active in the community and currently serves as a Commissioner on the Nova Scotia Securities Commission and on the Heritage Advisory Committee for Halifax Regional Municipality.
An active member of the profession, Jason has served in various capacities with the Canadian Bar Association, including as a member of the national Board of Directors and currently as Vice President with the Nova Scotia branch. He was honoured to be the 2024 recipient of the Canadian Bar Association Nova Scotia’s “President’s Distinguished Service Award”.
