About Roy
Roy Stewart is a member of our Indigenous Peoples practice group, practicing in Aboriginal law. His practice is focused exclusively on working with Indigenous clients, including Indigenous not-for-profit organizations, communities, governments and individuals across Mi'gma'gi.
He attended St. Thomas University for his undergraduate degree where he majored in Sociology and Native / Indigenous Studies. During law school, he worked as a research assistant with a law professor where he co-authored papers on the duty to consult. Roy has served as the Chair and Vice-Chair of the Canadian Bar Association-Nova Scotia Aboriginal Law Section and has been a part-time faculty member at the Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie University since 2020, where he is a Co-Coach of the law school’s Kawaskimhon Moot team. He also has a Certificate in Negotiation from Osgoode Hall Law School.
Roy has appeared before all levels of Court in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, and has represented Indigenous organizations at provincial and national commissions of inquiry, including the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls.
His dog’s name is Moose. Moose is a good boy!
